I love etymologies. My daily online surfing routines include visits to Thesaurus and Urban Dictionary. I am always looking for ways to expand my vocabulary. Not that I am book smart or anything like that, I guess this comes from my stint as an English tutor and my love for Hip Hop lyricism.
When I first decided to make the purchase that would change my life, I didn’t know what to tell the guy at the smoke shop when I first walked in . I wasn’t sure if it was called an e-cigarette, a vaporizer, or a vape pen. I come to realize that they are all of the above, all the same but also slightly different from each other.
Now, this is a tricky post for me. It took me a while to think on how I would structure this post because there are so many words associated to vaping. I could have made a small dictionary about vape words, but that would take me so much time and research and a lot of space, I wouldn’t want to bore anyone reading this.
Also, I didn’t want to get too technical with the words I chose to define. I could go on and on with Dual Coil Cartomizers, Variable Voltage, Kanthal, etc. I’m sure I can get to all that later on.
So I decided to put this together as someone who was a total noob to vaping. Kind of like I was six months ago. I must admit, the technology behind vaping did intimidate me, all I really wanted was to quit smoking. I did not have time to do a thorough research on what to say and what I wanted. All I knew was, “I want that vape pen at the right side of the display, and that Fruit Punch juice you have over at the corner shelf. And don’t even ask me about how much nicotine I want in it because I have no idea what you are saying.”
So I am going to do this in a chronological order, the terms you need to know if you are making that switch from smoking to vaping. In my opinion, knowing these terms will help you get a better idea at what you want, and what to expect.
This pertains to what kind of vaping unit you want. To keep it simple, I will arrange it from the simplest to the most complex set-ups that are usually on sale.
If you want to maintain the look and feel of a cigarette, this is the way to go. Like a cigarette, just has that ridiculous red/blue light at the tip whenever you take a puff. The disadvantages I see with these are its dependence on cartridges (the “butt” part of the e-cig which are disposable, and are a bit pricey), the limited flavors, and the vapor production. Good examples are Njoy and Blu e-cigs.
To me, this is the best set up for vaping. Very simple, introduces you to the use of juices, and gives you more control over your vaping. It also is the most cost-efficient out of all the set-ups. Many people will stick to this set-up because this is all you really need when it comes to vaping. Battery life is good, and it comes with a tank, which is good for all day vaping. This set-up also got me off of cigarettes, it is the Ayatollah of the vape movement. Only problem is it screams attention, and people will start to notice once you put this in your mouth so be ready for the questions.
E-go’s are great, but if you want to take your vaping experience to the next level, try a mod. I would never suggest a newbie to start off with a mod. It is for the advanced vaper. Honestly, I didn’t appreciate the first mod I bought just because I was so used to the simplicity of the e-go. But after a lot of practice and gaining more knowledge about vaping, I was able to appreciate and customize the way I vape. The good thing about mods is that they are more sturdy, have a longer battery life, has more power and can produce mad clouds of vapors if done right. The cons are it costs a lot to buy and maintain. You will start to spend more money once you master using a mod, because there so many ways to go with it. Also, once you buy one, you have to get another, and another, and another, and another. It becomes a vicious cycle. You have been warned!
So this is all for now. I hope this gives anyone out there thinking about switching to vaping a better idea of what to get. I will expound more on this in future articles. Geez, this isn’t even the tip of the iceberg, and I’m already drained from all this writing. Oh well, time to relax and enjoy some well deserved vapors.
