Big Tobacco Comes Out With Vape Product After UK Government Endorses Vaping

As I mentioned in a previous post, The U.K. government released their first endorsement of e-cigarettes stating they were safer than traditional cigarettes.

For me, I find it hard to look at things at face value. Sure, I consider it a win for vaping to get the support from a well-respected government such as the U.K.

But I always try to find the bigger picture, and I am starting observe something that tells me not everything looks as it seems.

In the infographic I shared in my post The Dark Truth Behind E-Cigarettes, it stated in the Revision of the Tobacco Products Directive by the European Council that:

Electronic cigarettes containing nicotine over a certain threshold will only be allowed if they have been authorized as pharmaceuticals.

First step to the legalization of vaping? Not quite. The problem with this is that pharmaceutical licensing in the E.U. is slow and expensive. The estimated cost for U.K. vape companies to get this type of licensing is a little over $2 million dollars!

What most people don’t know is that vape companies are small to medium scale business, with the bigger companies coming from China. The British and American vape companies are small, independent businesses that don’t have this kind of money.

But you know who does have the budget for this? Big Tobacco companies like the British American Tobacco company or BAT.

Just recently, BAT came out with their own research on e-cigarettes and the results were actually  in favor of vaping. It was actually so good of an endorsement that they came to the conclusion that vaping is just as dangerous to human lungs as “plain air.”

This is a pretty strong statement to make especially from a tobacco company. Why would they endorse something that could harm their main product which is tobacco?

That’s because they are making a play at entering the vape market. BAT came out with their new product Vype, which for me is a fitting name. I’m assuming Vype stands for “vape hype” because that’s all it really is.

vype-e-cig There are other Big Tobacco produced e-cigarettes out in the market, and this just shows you how things are being manipulated to ensure the existence of tobacco companies.

Me personally, I would NEVER buy a product from a tobacco company ever again. They got enough of my money and they will never get another penny from me.

If you are into e-cigarettes or cigalikes, please do not buy those flimsy little e-cigs you find at the gas station or at 7-11. There are other companies out there that produce superior cigalikes that will give you a much better vaping experience.

More importantly, these small scale vape companies have no affiliations with tobacco companies whatsoever, just former smokers who have kicked the nasty habit and want to help others who are trying to quit as well. Support your local vape company and stop putting money in Big Tobacco’s pockets.

Former smoker turned vaper since 2013. I blog about questions that I and others might have about vaping. All I can say is it's a better alternative to cigarettes, nicotine gum, patches or medication, no matter what the Big Tobacco backed media says!

  1. Trouble is Vype has been with us for a long time. It’s not new at all. Tobacco Companies vaping products are a minuscule part of the actual market. And some of their 2nd gen devices are very nicely made. We all bought from them when we were smoking anyway.

    1. True, it might be miniscule at the moment, but knowing how tobacco moves and the kind of budget they have, they can easily take a big chunk of the market in the future, especially with first time vapers. Celebrity endorsements, music festivals, press releases, etc.
If this new proposition in the EU pushes through, BAT will be the only player in the e-cig market in the UK, unless the smaller companies come together to form a corporation of their own and try to go head to head with BAT.
