Every Vaper’s Biggest Fear: E-Cigarette Explodes In Man’s Face

James-Lauria-e-cigarette-explodes-in-his-face

I just came across this article which reads like a horror movie for every vaper. A man was sent to the hospital after his e-cigarette blew up while he was using it. This is truly horrific and should raise concerns among vape manufacturers and customers. This also gives fuel for anti-vaping, pro-big tobacco lobbyist to further their argument to ban e-cigarettes.

The man in the story is James Lauria. While out for a vape break, his device exploded in his mouth ripping the roof of his mouth and breaking a finger. He was rushed to the ICU for first degree burns.

Now recovering, he needs to have a prosthetic implanted in his mouth, and now talks with a lisp.

This very unfortunate incident does bring up some questions about the validity of this story. The article never mentions what the mod James was using when this happened.

As a vaper, I would like to know who the manufacturer of this crappy device that exploded so I can NEVER buy a product from them ever.

I notice that the article was a bit vague on details and gave more of an emotional, terrifying message that this could happen to anyone who vapes.

Forget warning consumers about this faulty e-cigarette device that is floating around the market, this story wants to say that vape devices are ticking time bombs waiting to explode in the faces of people who use them.

It seems that the anti-vaping media has run of of logical arguments and are now moving toward moral and emotional headlines like “Teens Smoking Marijuana With E-Cigarettes” and “E-Cigarette Blows Up In Man’s Face.”

The lack of details in this article makes me question if its real or not. What do you guys think?

  1. I have heard rumors over what this guy was using. Some have said he took too many hits at too low a resistance, others said he put a sub tank on a mech mod. Either way, regulated devices are the way to go. I have a fear over using a mech mod.

  2. I feel really bad that this happened to him. But I do think it could be a case of the media using scare tactics. For all we know he could have been using a mech mod with very low coil resistance and the wrong type of battery. That would definitely cause a mod to explode if he wasn’t using it properly. But of course the media isn’t educated in the various type of ecigs available and probably didn’t have enough info to report what he was using anyway. My bet is he was using it wrong or we probably would’ve heard about the company selling faulty devices. I use a Vaporshark and feel very confident that my device is safe and working properly. Vape safe y’all!!

    1. Thanks Daniel. Thats how I felt too. It seems the media was more focused on the e-cigarette exploding and not what caused it. This is actually the first time for me to hear that a mod blew up in a person’s face, but the media made it sound like “this WILL HAPPEN to you if you vape.” I’m pretty sure he was using it wrong for it to have explode in his face. There are just so many ways to mod your mod, and some of these vapers go crazy with modding! Sometimes, they go too far its just not safe anymore. Its also unfair to say that this happens to ALL mods and e-cigarettes because I have never heard of an incident like this happening since now.

    1. Unfortunately, it does happen with any device using batteries. Cellphones explode, laptops, etc., so it isn’t fair to single out e-cigs. We all have to be careful when using electronic devices.
