Thank you to Andres for telling me about Direct Vapor. He also offered me a product to do a review on here on my blog.
One thing I’ve always wanted to try was a touch screen mod, so I decided to go with the SMY 100W TC Touch Box mod.
Touch screen mods are starting to pick up more popularity as of late, but they aren’t anything new. If I remember correctly, the first touch screen mod I came across was the Gi2 100W box mod which came out a couple of years ago.
Although it was innovative for it’s time, vapers didn’t really see the need to have that feature. People were still obsessing with cloud chasing and temperature control. The touch screen feature was seen as a novelty, but nothing really necessary.
Touch screen box mods have been picking up steam recently, so I said to myself, “People are going to want to know more about this type of technology. I must do a review!”
And for all of my budget smart readers out there, the Touch Box costs a little more than your usual mod. This comes in at just under a hundred dollars. A nice amount of money for a mod, in my opinion.
So what I also want to tackle here is, “Is it worth my hundred dollars?”
To be honest, I haven’t gotten into the precise details of this product yet. The Touch Box is definitely going to need more than one post for me to give it justice. There are a lot more technical features behind this mod which I haven’t really gotten into yet.
I will cover the basics in this post: how it vapes, the feel, it’s build, and it’s core features.
For the most part, it’s a mod I really like. I keep it in my house because I’m trying to be a little more careful because of the touch screen. I don’t have a protector yet and I think I might have already scratched the screen a bit, yikes!
Let’s get into the things I like about this mod!
Things I like about the Touch Box mod
Based on the design, I would say the Touch Box looks “generic.” Flat surfaces with cut edges. I actually like that about this mod. I’m into this type of simple design so it all depends on your personal taste I guess.
There is only one button on this mod, the fire button which doesn’t stick out too much so another plus for me! It’s clicky however, has a “tick!” to it.
The position is kind of weird at first. I like to vape right handed with my index finger on the fire button. I found I was hitting my palm on the screen in this position.
This was fixed when I enabled the lock screen however.
To adjust the wattage, you swipe right to go higher, and left for lower. Puff counter below the wattage display, and an ohm and volt reader for your atomizer which isn’t the MOST accurate I would say (it was reading 0.58 on the build I was using which read as 0.63 on my Joyetech eVic Mini.).
The menu screen is pretty straight forward as you can see above. A cool safety feature is it won’t let you fire when you are on the menu, in case you press the fire button by accident while changing your settings.
The work mode is something I am going to get back to you guys on. As you can see with the pic above, it comes with all different types of presets for all kinds of builds. It also has personal presets (DIY) that you can tweak and save for your personal builds!
The best thing I can say about the SMY Touch box mod is that it vapes smooth! Like SMMMOOOOTTTHHH! No throat hits at all! I can vape on and on without my throat being affected, and I’m using it on the Variable Wattage mode. I definitely want to get into the Stainless Steel, Titanium and Nickel modes of this mod!
Compared to my other mods, the presets on the Touch Box is set to where I like it. With my other mods, I would have to tweak the wattage or temp to get that smooth hit, that wasn’t a problem for my Touch Box!
Another great thing about this mod is it has built-in batteries! I started vaping it right out the box, and it lasted me for about 3 days. I believe I counted 500 puffs on the counter before I drained the battery.
Now for the cons…
As you can see in the pic above, the back panel doesn’t fit flush. Also, I’m not really feeling the carbon fiber panels on the back, only because they are super smooth. If they provided some grip, then I would see it’s purpose.
Also, the middle carbon fiber panel is sticking out a little, nothing that some super glue can’t fix though. I don’t mind it that much. I’m definitely gonna have to get a sleeve and screen protector for this mod first before I start bringing it out with me, so the back panel won’t really matter.
So back to the question, “Is it worth $100 dollars?” For an entry level touch screen mod, definitely yes! You’re other option would be the Sigelei T150 which is at the same price range, but I like the Touch Box mod’s design better personally.
Thanks once again to Andres of Direct Vapor for this very cool mod. Be sure to check this mod out on their site. It comes in 4 different colors and it’s free shipping for US customers! It vapes great and appeals to both casual and advanced vapers!
