Whenever I see an article about teen vaping, I always ask myself this question.
“If I ever caught my teenage son vaping, would I get mad?”
Honestly speaking, I don’t think I would throw a fit over it. I would want to know why he is vaping and what caused him to try it. But I don’t think I could be angry with him about it.
The popular myth being put out by our biased media is that vaping is a gateway drug to smoking.
Now smoking, I can not tolerate. I would be fuming mad if I caught my teenage son smoking. The vaping I would let him get away with because I don’t see any long term harmful effects coming from it.
But with smoking, that’s a whole other story. It angers me to see my son pick up such a useless habit that kills him slowly. That would fire me up.
And this is why teen vaping remains to be an important topic among parents, a topic the media is trying to spin and alter. It’s pretty obvious the media (for whatever reasons) is very anti-vaping, especially here in the United States.
And their biggest argument that vaping leads to smoking is entirely false!
The argument that teen vaping leads up to teen smoking has no proof or evidence to back up it’s claim! It’s just a headline that the media made up to grab attention for the story.
Here’s a recent study published in the journal of Tobacco Control which has a much more accurate answer to teen vaping habits.
So the real reason why more teens are vaping, as obviously as it should be, is simply because it taste better!
In the study, more than 2/3 of the students questioned about vaping said they use only flavored juices with zero nicotine! So no, there is no such thing of a nicotine outbreak among teens that is them into smoking zombies, as some people would want you to believe.
This ties in with what I was saying before, “If I could go back in time where I tried my first cigarette, but instead I was also given the choice to try vaping, which one would I most likely pick up as a habit?”
My answer is always vaping. If there was vaping during the time I was growing up, I would definitely be vaping instead of smoking.
This is coming from a former half a pack a day smoker, after years of vaping, I’ve come to realize that smoking does have a disgusting taste to it. Once you get it out of your system, you start to realize how strong it smells, and just how awful it tastes.
I remember I had to actually train myself to enjoy cigarettes when I was picking up the habit of smoking. I remember trying to look for a spot where I was alone and no one could see or smell what I was doing. Trying to stop myself from coughing and just keep telling myself that smoking will make me cool.
I totally can see where the teens are coming from. The flavor off of some of these vape juices is amazing! It’s almost comparable to taking a bite out of something, that’s how good some e-juice companies are.
Vaping flavored juices at zero nicotine is comparable to chewing gum in my opinion. I don’t see anything wrong with that, and it doesn’t effect or alter them in any way.
Vaping zero nic flavored e-juice to me is like eating a piece of candy or a chocolate bar. I don’t even see why teens should be punished for this either.
I’m just glad that teen smoking has dropped, and teens nowadays have a healthier and overall better alternative to smoking. But I’m pretty sure they already know that.
