The Devastating Impact of Cigarette Butts on the Environment

Steve from Purplebox has been supplying this blog with really great infographics and his latest one about the devastating impact of cigarette butts on the environment.

You still see people smoking on the street, and while public ashtrays have helped in lessening the litter left by cigarettes, you still see cigarette butts everywhere on the street especially in the cities.

I remember when I used to smoke, I would never really have a second thought about where I threw my butts. My only concern that time was making sure I put it out before throwing it away.

This infographic shows how devastating of an impact cigarette butts have on our environment.

I guess it’s another good reason why you should vape instead of smoking cigarettes!

Former smoker turned vaper since 2013. I blog about questions that I and others might have about vaping. All I can say is it's a better alternative to cigarettes, nicotine gum, patches or medication, no matter what the Big Tobacco backed media says!

  1. I haven’t read the whole article here, because it annoyed me. It’s got “anti-tobacco” vibes raidiating all round it and I’d really question some of the Science!!! In the UK here there are no public ashtrays ANYWHERE! It’s a disgrace. No good complaining about the litter here – it’s the council’s own damn fault. They should be charged with an environmental crime.
I’m a vaper – our vaping “trash” is terryfying! And we are raping the earth in resources.
You can’t say that for the old tobacco plant – or a butt, that, in my garden, had disappereared by the next season. 25 years? My foot!
And the last thought, if the filters are so environmentaly toxic they could be manufactured from cotton as they used to be in the old days.
    Rant over
    Love your blog!

    1. Hahaha, thanks lastfurlong. I understand, but the main point of the infographic was a call to put up more public ashtrays and proper places where smokers could dispose their butts. Some places that did this in the UK, US and Australia saw a great decrease in cigarette butt litter.
