Why Am I Still Craving Cigarettes?

Vaping Beats Smoking
Vaping Beats Smoking

I’ve been cigarette-free for quite a while now, but honestly I get the itch to smoke a cigarette every now and then. It’s natural for any recovering junkie. This was a daily habit of mine for many years, and I still consider myself new to vaping.

Let’s face it, sometimes vaping feels exactly just like that, smoking vapor. It lacks the “kick” or throat hit cigarettes usually give you. It’s like a smoker going from Marlboro Reds to ultra lights, it might not be doing you so well. In this case, its time to up your dosage of nicotine.

The beauty of vaping is it is highly customizable to fit your taste. The more you vape, the more you will discover what works for you and what doesn’t. In my case, I am more about flavor and vapor production. I have done away with cartomizers and clearomizer tanks and have settled with rebuildable atomizers. I have also learned what set-up I like. But now I am getting too technical at this point, so here’s how to get that extra kick in vaping.

Two things you should know, nicotine content and PG/VG. The higher the nicotine content, the more of a throat hit you get. Try looking at the bottle of juice you have and see how much nicotine is in it. Here is a simple table that can help you compare nicotine content to cigarettes:

6mg = ultra lights

12mg = lights

18mg = Reds

Next time you buy juice at a vape store, ask for help. This is why I stress on buying from a vape store rather than a smoke shop when buying juice. The people there can help you immensely. Of course, it will also depend on the personal preference of the person you ask. In my experience, one store thought 12mg juice was good enough and did not stock on anything higher than that. That was based o their preference. Also, I’ve noticed that most vape shops only go as high as 18mg. If you do need something stronger and can’t find it at your local vape shop, then try buying online. Many vendors sell 24mg, 36mg, and even 42mg juice on their site.

Another thing is the PG/VG content. Simply put, the higher the PG content, the more of a throat hit you will get. VG is more for vapor production. Most juices are a 50/50 mix, so look for something that is slightly higher on the PG content like a 60/40 or 80/20 mix.

There are many other ways of increasing a throat hit with vaping, but I decided to keep it short and simple at this time and will dwell on this topic on another post. Just remember, you don’t always have to fall off the wagon, you just have to tweak what you are doing to get rid of those nasty cravings.

Flavored Cigars: Final Attempt Of The Dying Tobacco Industry

Flavored Cigars
Pick Your Poison

Okay, I’m going to get a little political with this post, knowing that I hate topics such as politics most of the time. For some reason, there is an article I just read that has gotten me hot. The drop in cigarette sales (which has decreased by a third in the past decade) is being offset by the rise in cigar sales.

Cigars? Really? I know cigarettes stink, but I remember cigars smelled 10 times worse.

What got me mad was that the Tobacco companies have come up with a new tactic, flavored cigars. Surprisingly, they now come in different flavors: blueberry, grape, cherry, and chocolate, just to name a few.

Another advantage these cigar companies have over traditional stogies is it costs much cheaper. Instead of buying a whole pack of cigarettes, these come in three’s, and some stores even sell singles.

What’s sad is that the majority of this upsurge in cigar sales are smokers between the ages of 18-24 (yes, 18. This is the legal age to buy cigarettes in Maryland.)

In my honest and humble opinion, this is just a last resort tactic of the Tobacco industry in getting the new generation hooked on smoking. The addition of flavors to cigars proves that people are already sick of the tobacco/menthol taste, and the companies are trying to branch out to a new, younger market.

I truly believe cigarettes will be phased out in the future, as we can see it slowly fading away. It was a bad idea in the first place. Vaping is winning the war, slowly but surely. It’s just sad that these consumers aren’t aware of how vaping is so much more awesome and cheaper compared to cigars.

But that’s my opinion. Let’s see how this plays out as the evil empire tries one last grab at the youth.

People Ask The Dumbest Questions To People Who Vape

I work in a place where there are a lot of smokers. Nine times out of ten when I step into the smoking area, I get looks from other smokers when they notice this ridiculous looking device I use to smoke. Here are the top three most asked questions I get from them:

1. How ya’ liking it? (or How is it working for you? Does it really work?)

“I like it very much.” Works for me, I haven’t smoked in a couple of months now. Not bad for a former half-a-pack-a-day smoker. It’s a whole lot better than trying to quit cold turkey.

2. Does it taste like a cigarette?

I flat out say no. Nothing tastes like a real cigarette. At first, I thought vaping tasted like smoking air, with a hint of flavor (especially since I started with a zero nicotine juice), but now I realize it tasted like nothing because I was used to inhaling all those nasty chemicals that are in a cigarette.

3. How much does it costs?

I say 20 bucks. I try to get them to buy a cheap starter kit they could find at a smoke shop. That’s basically how I started. If they do like it, they could progress and buy better, more expensive kits at a vape shop. But just in case they don’t like vaping, they wouldn’t have had to dish out a lot of money on their first kit.

Honestly, I get tired of answering these same questions everyday. I feel like a salesman pitching a product, when I am only trying to justify why I vape. Sometimes I just want to end it by saying, “None of your damn business! Let me vape in peace!”

But I realize that I can save someone from putting themselves in danger from consuming cigarettes. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a doctor or specialist, and I am not making any medical claims with this post. I sure know however that it is a much healthier alternative to smoking.

I try to be more enthusiastic about answering their questions. I put myself in their shoes, back when I was still smoking and I would see a person vaping right next to me. I had so many questions I wanted to ask. Let’s remind ourselves that we were once that person asking stupid questions.

I am not trying to sound moralistic but I believe it is my duty to present myself as a responsible person who vapes, and should answer inquiries other people have for me about vaping. I love vaping! Is it true? I do, I do, I doooo.

Seriously though, I care for this little movement, which is another reason why I started this blog. Thinking back on why I didn’t start vaping sooner than I should have, it was probably because I was not sure about it. Now, I am truly confident that I did make the better decision. If it takes me a few minutes of my time each day to share what I know about vaping to others, then so be it.

I am not an expert either, I know there are a lot more people who know way more than what I know. Which is why I am also learning new things about this beautiful thing called vaping. So for everyone out their reading this, let’s spread the good news that their is a better way than silly patches and overpriced gum when it comes to quitting. We now have vaping!
